How about the On Semiconductor KAI-50140 sensor? It´s a CCD sensor which is available and quite wide: 46.98mm H x 21.6mm V making a 2.18:1 aspect ratio. 50.1 megapixel.
It´s a little wider than the GFX sensor 44x33. Then not so much would go wasted with a 3:2 frame. Uses the PGA-72 standard.
As a long-time panorama shooter I've come to the conclusion that the best focal length on a 617 camera is around 120mm, which is a 24mm on a full-frame 35mm camera.
Going for a 60mp sensor is a good idea, but you will have competition from both the Sigma FP-L and the recent Sony A7CR. Your lens therefore has to be a super sharp optic!
I've used and owned Linhof 617, Fuji 617, Navy Torpedo 618, Plaubel Veriwide 6x9, Fuji 6x9 wide, Hasselblad X-pan, some swing lens cameras too, and several home-made cameras. Now shooting digital, of course.
I agree. I have a Fujifilm GX617, and the 24mm wide angle is perfect for landscape and interior shooting. It feels the angle fits well with the human eye, and captures what you see in a room. I have a 105mm lens, and it´s somewere around 24mm. Shooting with the GX617 viewfinder on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 gives sort of the same panorama picture in witdh, when you crop in post.
The math works on all camera. 24mm full frame equalant lens and crop in post and you get a XPAN image.
Do you know the PIXII camera from France? It looks to me that you could incorporate some of their technology in your project... I would also look at the Fuji GFX sensor for a true panoramic quality of image and file... wishing you good luck in creating a beautiful new age digital camera.
Thank you for your comment - we are aware of PIXII, it is awesome they keep the rangefinder tech alive. (apart from Leica) - Unfortunately there are not panoramic sensors because there is no need for them, yes, GFX100ii or X2D using crop mode you can get an incredible 6:2 ratio photo of about 50mpx, that is MORE than plenty for anyone and to avoid justifying sony to produce a niche sensor.
I love this project. Looking forward to see a working camera. Will it use M mount lenses? The Leica crowd will go crazy for this.
it is a possibility! we are considering it for prototyping
It all looks very promising. I'm looking forward to seeing this beautiful camera in the flesh.
Thank you for your comment and support - we cannot wait to show more
I cannot wait for this to be in production…sign me up!!!!
Thank you for your comment! Keep an eye on for it!

Thank you - while sounding nice, it seems obsolete in the manufacture's website

PIXII is only 26MP.
Thank you - Anything is possible
